AIOU 0387 - Compulsory English 2 - Solved Questions

Write a short paragraph of about 80 to 100 words comparing and contrasting city life and village life.

City life and village life are very different from each other. City life is fast, busy, and full of people. There are many cars, tall buildings, big shops, and schools in cities. People use buses, cars, or trains to travel. Village life is slow and peaceful. There are green fields, fresh air, and fewer people in villages. Most people walk or use bicycles. In cities, people work in offices or factories. In villages, many people are farmers. Cities have hospitals, markets, and many schools, but they are also noisy and crowded. Villages are quiet and clean, but they may have fewer facilities. Both city and village life have good and bad points. Some people like the city, while others enjoy the calm life in a village.

Develop a comprehensive paragraph of 100 words on the topic "Environmental pollution". The components must contain:
i. Topic sentence
ii. Supporting detail
iii. Conclusion

Environmental pollution is one of the biggest problems facing the world today. It occurs when harmful substances like smoke, plastic, and chemicals are released into the air, water, and land. Factories, vehicles, and human waste are major sources of pollution. This pollution harms animals, plants, and even human health by causing diseases and damaging nature. For example, dirty water can spread illness, and polluted air can cause breathing problems. If we do not control pollution, the Earth will become unsafe for future generations. Therefore, we must take action by planting trees, recycling waste, and using eco-friendly products to protect our environment.

Describe "Alliteration" and "Rhyme" with the help of examples.

Alliteration

Alliteration is the repetition of the same starting sound or letter in two or more nearby words. It is often used in poems and tongue twisters to create rhythm and musical effect.

(The ‘s’ sound is repeated.)

- Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
(The ‘p’ sound is repeated.)

Rhyme

(“Cat,” “sat,” and “mat” all rhyme.)

- Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
(“Star” and “are” rhyme.)
